Injury to the soft tissue

If the victim is caught unawares the muscles are in a relaxed state which allow the head and the neck to rock back and forth more forcefully than if they were contracted. This increases the chances of more serious injuries as well which might not be noticeable immediately either. It might take days or even weeks for the injuries to manifest.
